Stress Awareness Month
April marks Stress Awareness Month, an annual observance since 1992 aimed at raising awareness about the causes and cures for our modern stress epidemic. This year, you can participate by:
Taking the 30-Day Challenge: Choose one action each for your physical, mental, and emotional wellbeing to carry out every day in April.
Sharing coping strategies: If you've found effective ways to manage stress, share them with friends, family, and colleagues.
Practicing self-care: Make time for relaxation and activities you enjoy.
National Counseling Awareness Month
April is also National Counseling Awareness Month. This is an excellent opportunity to:
Learn about the benefits of counseling
Reach out to a mental health professional if you've been considering therapy
Support friends or family members who may be struggling with mental health issues
Alcohol Awareness Month
With April being Alcohol Awareness Month, consider:
Educating yourself about the effects of alcohol on mental health
Participating in alcohol-free social activities
Supporting local recovery groups or organizations
Getting Involved in North Carolina and Beyond
While specific events for April 2025 may not be announced quite yet, here are some ways you can get involved:
Attend local workshops: Keep an eye out for mental health workshops or seminars organized by local health centers or community organizations.
Participate in virtual events: Many mental health organizations offer online webinars and virtual support groups. These can be excellent resources for those unable to attend in-person events.
Organize a community event: Consider organizing a small gathering in your area to discuss mental health topics or practice stress-relief activities together.
Support local mental health organizations: Volunteer or donate to mental health initiatives across the state. Organizations like Talk It Out NC provide resources for alcohol safety and awareness
Attend the NC CTP Spring 2025 Annual EBT Conference (Mental Health Professionals Event): This is a virtual event from April 14-17, 2025, and it's an excellent opportunity for mental health professionals in North Carolina to enhance their skills and learn about community mental health trends.
Remember, mental health awareness and support are year-round necessities. Use April as a springboard to develop habits and connections that will benefit your mental health and that of your community throughout the year. Stay informed about local events and don't hesitate to reach out to mental health professionals or support groups in the Cary area for more specific information and assistance.
